The BUBL lab is in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science at Brock University and is supervised by Dr. Vaughn Mangal. Our lab group is particularly interested in metal transport, molecular properties of dissolved organic matter (DOM), microbial transformations of DOM in relation to metal uptake, and microbial metabolomics. We conduct research that falls under biogeochemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, and bioanalytical chemistry. Our lab group uses cutting-edge analytical techniques to better understand carbon biogeochemistry at the molecular scale while devising new tools to solve analytical problems in environmental chemistry.

Parwez Nejatie (UNDERGRADUATE PROJECT STUDENT)
Parwez completed his CHEM 3P98 course in our lab in 2023. He worked to develop methods for TOC determination in agricultural drains.
eRIC BURGOS (VOLUNTEER)
Eric volunteered in the lab in 2023. He worked on DOM composition of wetlands in the Northwest Territories.
Adithya Sethumadhavan (UNDERGRADUATE THESIS STUDENT)
Adithya was an undergraduate thesis student in the BUBL group in 2022-2023. He studied how agriculture land use in the Kawartha region affects the chemical composition of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in surrounding watersheds.

Morgan robinson (VOLUNTEER)
Morgan was a volunteer in the BUBL group with research interests pertaining to contaminants in the natural and disturbed environment. Morgan will be continuing her work at Environment Canada in 2023, where she has accepted a position as an organic analysis lab technician.
